Calathea Exotica, also known as the Peacock Plant, is a stunning tropical plant with beautiful foliage that can add a touch of color and drama to any indoor space. The leaves of this plant are deep green with striking patterns of burgundy and pink, making it a popular choice among plant enthusiasts.
Care instructions:
Watering: Calathea Exotica prefers to be kept consistently moist but not soggy. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or leaving the plant in standing water as this can lead to root rot.
Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves.
Humidity: Calathea Exotica requires high humidity levels to thrive. You can increase humidity by placing a tray of water near the plant, using a humidifier, or misting the leaves regularly.
Temperature: This plant prefers temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains moisture but doesn't become waterlogged. Adding perlite or vermiculite can improve drainage.
Fertilizer: Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize in winter.
With proper care, Calathea Exotica can grow up to 2-3 feet tall and wide. Keep an eye out for pests such as spider mites and mealybugs, and remove them by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth or using insecticidal soap. Re-pot the plant every 1-2 years to provide fresh soil and room for growth.
